Group Blogs vs. Group Mailing Lists

Now that I am into blogging as a sport and past time, I am curious as to people views on the "old school" mailing list. Do people still belong to active mailing lists to stay connected with friends and colleagues? Or do you just keep track of each others blogs through a RSS aggregator such as RSSBandit? Or do you have a group blog so that the entire group can blog about things and to each other? Just curious since I belong to a mailing list called Software Brewing Group that is getting active again. Maybe start a Software Brewing group blog and then everyone can see how smart and witty we are!... Well maybe we can stick to our mailing list.
